For all that, the artwork is not bad at all and in some respects the slightly simpler nature makes it easier to see some of the salient ID features. An extraordinary new field guide will do much to reduce our confusion over field identification and get us used to the new classification scheme of warblers. Chris L - I have been using your software for years now… use it all the time… use it often for teaching… use it for ‘birding by ear’ workshops… use the Birder’s Handbook connection often too. Amazon is usually quite expensive for Australian sourced books purchased from within Australia, presumably because they have to be shipped overseas (to Amazon) and then back again. What you can learn to help you in identifying birds is diverse: plumages (male vs female, breeding vs nonbreeding, adult vs juvenile), appearance in flight, appearance as silhouettes, behavior, range, habitats, songs, calls, nests, eggs, signs and even tracks.

For instance, invertebrates are divided into two sections, Marine Invertebrates and Insects, and any groups not covered by those sections are lumped together in the Animals section. Unusual Specimens at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, 9/6/01. Most pages cover 6 – 8 species on average. This is a nice field guide, but only focuses on the arid regions. There are notes on field identification for a further 633 species under the heading 'allied species'. On several occasions, I have hired specific, qualified bird guides - once for a day tour at Carara, once for a day near Manual Antonio National Park, twice near the Arenal and Heliconias lodges, and once again at San Gerardo and Savegre Lodge for target birds.
