Historically, original sin was connected to the discussion about the manner in which Adam’s sin affects all humans, such as through the transmission of Adam’s fallen nature or through God’s imputation (crediting) of Adams sin. The spirit of compromise is in the air and the level of defection and capitulation on this point is disturbing. Although its roots predate the year 1900, its absolute bearing is frequently attributed to the 20th century. This type of multi-denominational discourse should be the new norm (as I tried to model in my latest book on Protestantism and issues of race ).

Very interesting article, but as for Akin, did any of you listen to his statement? What they want to resurrect is not entirely clear, but, as Casanova admits, the theocratic impulse in some of this language is out of step with modern politics. 33 On the other hand, the religious right sometimes speaks of another Great Awakening that will contribute to a moral renewal of the United States. The Reformed closest to Calvin emphasize the real presence, or sacramental presence, of Christ, saying that the sacrament is a means of saving grace through which the believer actually partakes of Christ, "but not in a carnal manner".
